As an expert in minimally invasive surgical techniques, Elijah Mobley M.D. utilizes the da Vinci® Surgical System when working on patients in Victorville and Apple Valley. The da Vinci® Surgical System is a robotic surgery system that allows a surgeon to stretch the boundaries of other traditional and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Essentially, patients who require major surgery can have that procedure performed using minimally invasive techniques with the da Vinci® system. This makes recovery easier and also improves the end result for the patient.
The term robotic surgery may make some patients apprehensive, but it’s important to note that the system must be controlled by a highly-skilled surgeon. It does not, cannot and will not make its own decisions and operate on its own. It is simply a tool that can be used by a surgeon that utilizes the best technology available, allowing Dr. Mobley to improve his capabilities when working on an individual patient.
da Vinci® Surgical System Features
Requires only 1-2 centimeter incisions to be made in the patient, but at the same time allows surgeons to perform traditional open surgery procedures. Essentially, this allows a surgeon to perform a traditional open surgery using minimally invasive techniques, improving the results and experience for the patient.
The system itself consists of a surgical console for Dr. Mobley and a patient cart that has the instruments on it to perform the surgery. On the patient cart, there are four robotic arms, a high-resolution and high-performance vision system and EndoWrist instruments which are designed to mimic and translate the exact, precise movements of the surgeon behind the console.
The da Vinci® Surgical System works in real time. This means that as the surgeon is moving his hands to complete a surgical technique, the system is translating and mimicking those moves at the same time using the best tools available. The EndoWrist instruments are designed to complete even the most precise movements. It’s important to note that it is still the surgeon who is completing the surgery, he is simply utilizing the technology available to him to complete the procedure in the safest way possible for the patient.
The cart can hold up to three different instruments at one time, and the types of instruments that can be used on this system is limitless. There are dozens of instrument types that surgeons can choose from when they invest in the da Vinci® system, allowing them to perform a large variety of operations with this technology.
